Shúmee

Ivan Shumkov

Phuket, Thailand

Shúmee began his involvement with club culture in the early 2000s as a co-founder of Geometria, the largest Russian-language online hub dedicated to nightlife. Quite soon, he joined this life as a DJ.

Together with his art comrades, Ivan took to calling themselves A Few Dudes — a promo band that hosted regular events at Saint-Petersburg venues such as Red Club, Efir, Decadance, and Pravda. They also took part in significant music festivals, such as Kazantip and Fort Dance. Meanwhile, A Few Dudes managed to release a few EPs on the Deeplogy label.

In 2015, Shúmee traded the chilly Russian nights for the crowded streets of Hanoi. Teaming up with a friend from Kyiv’s Closer, he gathered dancing youth at mo:sa:ic parties, igniting the underground nightlife in the capital of Vietnam. Their activities also extended to Ho Chi Minh, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Bangkok.

Despite adventures since, Shúmee remains drawn to psychedelic house and broken beats, much like shadows are attracted to neon lights. Through his music, he blurs the boundaries between people, time, and space.
